Running Acrobat 5 for Linux on Solaris 10

Alan DuBoff was running the Linux version of Adobe Acrobat Reader in Solaris 10 on AMD64. With its linux compatibility, it is possible to run Linux applications on Solaris 10 out-of-the-box (no recompilation required).

DTrace source code is now available at OpenSolaris.org website as a part of the Solaris open sourcing initiative. Using CDDL (Common Development and Distribution License), based on Mozilla Public License, OSI-approved.

Solaris Zones paper in LISA '04 and Penn State's OS course

Blastwave - Free software packages for Solaris

Blastwave is a collective effort to create a set of binary packages of free software, that can be automatically installed to a Solaris computer (sparc or x86 based) over the network."

To install any package, just use pkg-get script (pretty much like the famous apt-get).

For example, to install an Apache web server, just:

# pkg-get install apache
