What SCO doesn't want you to know?

Since you don't need any of the original AT&T Unix source code to certify your operating system and use the Unix trademark, you do not have to license anything from the SCO Group to call your operating system Unix. As a matter of fact, SCO has to pay The Open Group to use the Unix and UnixWare trademarks, and The Open Group is not very happy with SCO's obnoxious and unprofessional public behavior.

SCO only has the right to license the Unix source code that they have control over; basically what they bought from Novell, which was sold to them first by AT&T. SCO does not control the patents to the Unix source -- those also remain with Novell -- and whether or not SCO controls the copyright to the code is currently a matter of debate; SCO says it controls the copyright and Novell claims that it still retains those rights. Either way, the SCO Group actually controls very little so-called "intellectual property" with regard to the Unix operating system.

Another interesting SCO-related point is the company's claim that Linux contains code similar to bits found in SVR4 Unix. GNU/Linux and the BSDs strive for standards compliance on many levels, and that means following the prescribed Open Group, ISO, and IEEE standards as much as possible. SCO has shown little proof of copyright infringement thus far, but has claimed that some Linux files, such as ctype.h and errno.h, are "copied" from its proprietary code. In reality, the similarity is likely due to the fact that in both SVR4 and Linux these files were designed according to published standards. SCO does not own the standard or the material in the standard; it is either trying to intentionally mislead people to give the appearance of credibility, or was not thorough enough in its research on the matter.

Currently read several (popular science) books on 'social network' and 'microbehavior' (for two months, but haven't really finished any -- just only selected chapters of interest).

And last week, got mentioned about Orkut from the SIGIR 2004 tutorial (Text Summarization, Drago Radev). And, eventually, today I got an invitation to Orkut network from Nong Pa.

The idea is fairly simple. You have friends, and each friend of yours also has friends, and so on -- by this way, the network will grows up in an exponential fashion.

The favorite claim is that, giving six degree of connectedness, we can link everyone in this world together into the same global network, i.e. Osama Bin Laden could be a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of YOU.

And if we consider each person as a node and their friendship as an edge, giving enough degree of connectedness, we'll come up with a graph (not tree) -- that means you can know one individual person by more than one way (path).

Your ex-girlfriend is now a girlfriend of your best friend. -- That's also the case :P

MSN เปิดตัวระบบค้นหาตัวใหม่ มาแนว minimalist แบบเดียวกับที่ทำให้ Google ประสบความสำเร็จมาแล้ว
แถมฟีเจอร์ต่อฟีเจอร์ ดูคร่าวๆ แล้ว มีไม่น้อยหน้ากัน
อย่างลิงก์ไปหาข่าวที่เกี่ยวข้องที่ Google มี MSN ก็มี
ส่วนที่ MS หวังทำเงินไว้เต็มที่ ก็คงที่โฆษณานี่แหละ ลักษณะเหมือน Google เป๊ะ

ที่น่าสนใจคือตัว MSN น่ะ มีเนื้อหาในมือเยอะแยะ
ถ้าเอาตรงนั้นมาร่วมเล่นด้วย ก็ท่าจะ search ได้มันน่าดู
เอาแค่ Encarta ก็แย่แล้ว เนื้อหาตั้งไม่รู้เท่าไหร่

found two cars driving around Picadilly Circus, horning & flagging Greek's flag -- as they won over Czech in extra time, just an hour ealier.

not a long time after, it's a Canada's flag in Underground, District Line, way to Wimbledon.

before went there at Picadilly, just went for a Thai pub, Siam Sq near Earl's Court station .. but later changed my mind and went to Picadilly instead.

on the way back to the Earl's Court station, found a group of Thai teenagers .. 1 boy, 1 girl on the other side of the street, 3 girls at my side -- I think one of them got drunk, since she can't walk by herself and it seems like she just hit some post nearby. no, they didn't noticed that I'm Thai.

may be there're too many Thai people here. I've Kimuchi Ramen as my lunch today, at Brewer's Cafe Ryu, a small Japanese noodle bar near Picadilly Circus (to be more precise, near Regent Street, I think .. but you have to walk further in a small road, not on a main street).

once I sat down; suddenly noticed that a table at my front left are Thais -- they talking to each other quite loud, speaking Thai, on a topic of who's gonna win tonight's (football) match. actually, they talking about betting. just less than 5 mins later, another two girls came, sitting on my right (well, far right, not right by :P). and they start to notice that that table are Thais. so I said to them (2 girls) "Well, it seems like there're all Thai people here".

on my previous post, I said I posted it from easyInternetCafe. a couple at my back, at that time, is also Thai.

this is my 3rd day in London, and there're only two meals that are not Thai food.

Just come here to visit my relatives
(by the 'order' of my parents).

They run a Thai restuarant somewhere around Fulham, New King's Road, I think.

Yesterday, I was there at their restaurant and help a bit about billing form things.
But today is my day, and like to spend it like a 'holiday' (though very short one :P).

Used to be around here once back in Febraury this year, a very brief visit.
The surroundings are great, I mean it's just an urban life that I like.
Anyway, it's just a visit, not live .. so I can't say much.

Yesterday, the fantastic Portugal won over the boring Holland for 2-1 (and Dutchmen got absolutely no goal from their own efforts, that 1 is an own goal).

Thinking of someone far away.
