Berlin Conference on Expertise in Context

Can really the Crowd, labelled elegantly eventually void the necessities of the Experts ? ... well, I like to believe so, but not yet at this moment.
But, still, who're the Experts ? Why they are considered Experts ?

Berlin Conference on Expertise in Context — July 26-28, 2006

Can we research expertise without context? We have serious difficulties when it comes to explaining what really defines an "expert"-a difficulty that goes beyond the explanatory range of defining experts through their individual performance. Take, for example, experts who provide political advice or consult multinationals. What really qualifies them as experts? How can we assess their performance? How can we disentangle their individual expert contribution and the success of the enterprise or party they work for? We cannot understand these cases, if we don't consider what Hoffman, Feltovich and Ford (1997) concluded, in summing up the development of the psychology of expertise, namely: the "minimum unit of analysis" is the "expert-in-context." The Berlin Conference on Expertise in Context will be the platform to discuss the embeddedness of expertise.

The conference language will be English.

Participants are welcome from around the world.
